We’re drawn to places shaped by their environment. Places where work follows natural rhythm, and daily life adapts to changing conditions. Salmarim reflects that way of living with its practical, patient, and deeply connection to place. It’s this perspective that continues to influence how we think about design, materials, and everyday wear.
Salmarim is located along the Algarve coast, where salt has been harvested for generations. Here, fleur de sel forms naturally when sea water evaporates under the sun and wind — a process shaped entirely by environmental conditions. This is where we spent time during the Spring ’26 shoot. Observing, learning, and documenting how salt is harvested and used in everyday life.

HOW FLEUR DE SEL IS MADE
Fleur de sel appears only under specific conditions. As sea water slowly evaporates, delicate crystals form on the surface. These crystals are carefully collected by hand, without disturbing the water beneath. Timing, temperature, and wind determine the quality of the salt. It’s a slow process, guided by experience and daily observation rather than machines or automation.

KNOWLEDGE PASSED ON
At Salmarim, salt harvesting is part of daily routine. The people working here understand the rhythm of the salt pans; knowing when to harvest, when to wait, and when to let nature take lead. During our time there, we were invited to observe, ask questions, and learn. Not as outsiders, but by spending time together on the ground.
A FIEST TO ENJOY
Once the salt has been harvested here, it’s used immediately. We were lucky to witness the preparation and taste fresh fish, simple ingredients, and meals made on site that reflect how fleur de sel fits naturally into everyday cooking. Cooking together became part of the process. Sharing food, techniques, and stories.
